On McCain's assertion that Sarah Palin is a leading expert and advocate for persons with disabilities
That assertion in the last presidential debates totally irked me, for so many reasons.
Christy says it best though. Don't miss this post.

Thanks for the link. I have a brother with special needs, and was absolutely appalled at McCain's claim of Palin being an expert. After 35 years, we are not 'experts' by any stretch of the word in dealing with and advocating for my brother. That Palin could be considered an expert by virte of giving birth to a son with Down Syndrome is laughable and insulting to those families who have spent years advocating and fighting to get funding and programs for their children. The Palin family certainly has a long road in front of them. I wish them and Trig the best and just maybe, someday, they will realize just how wrong McCain was when he made that statement.

Thank you for that link. Even though I don't have a SN child, I too was angered by McCain's statement that by virtue of birthin' Trig (and she went back to work ridiculously soon after that event) she was now an expert on Special Needs, especially in the light of her prior acts of not allocating much needed money. Thank you for that link, Christy did put it very well.

I'm here via Greta - Thank you for this link... I had a big emotional (read: angry) reaction to McCain's statement on this as well even though I didn't have much to base it on other than a general feeling that it was a pandering statement, and it's nice to hear more background and details on this.
